We work year-round to be prepared when disaster strikes. When we saw the devastation recently caused by Hurricane Ida, our team swung into action. Larry and Willie spent many hours on forklifts getting donations ready and loading the trucks with the supplies needed by those affected by the storm. In partnership with the City of Birmingham and several local churches and schools, we sent a total of 5 trucks to Laplace, New Orleans, and Houma, LA. In total, we sent 131,785 lbs. of supplies worth over $275,000!
For most of our disaster relief, we work with CitiIMPACT Ministries, our transportation partner, to ensure these items are distributed to those who need them most. Our favorite part of partnering with CitiIMPACT is how closely our missions and visions align. CitiIMPACT distributes donations to local churches in the areas affected by disasters mobilizing volunteers to reach those in need. The local church is aware of the community, the people, and the needs and has great people resources to distribute these items. While we firmly believe much good can come about because of nonprofit organizations, we believe that the Church (and local churches) has an incredible opportunity for impact. We are so thankful that CitiIMPACT shares that belief!
We are so thankful for the opportunity to partner with organizations that share our beliefs to connect resources with needs in the Birmingham area and beyond! A great way to support disaster relief is to begin collecting supplies now that we can have on hand when the next disaster comes. Having items ready lets us send resources immediately instead of waiting for collections to be organized and prepared for shipping.
