If you have lived in Birmingham for a significant amount of time, you have likely heard the name, Faith Chapel. Founded over 45 years ago, Faith Chapel has a vast presence in West Birmingham, with a congregation numbering in the thousands and a beautiful campus that hosts the “Word Dome” church building and “The Bridge,” a community event/venue center. Senior Pastor Mike Moore leads the church, which he intentionally founded in the same area where he grew up. His wife and son also lead in the church, with Mrs. Kennetha Moore serving as the executive director of special programs and Michael K. Moore leading as the executive pastor.
Faith Chapel is a nondenominational church that focuses on the Word of God above all else. Their diverse congregation is open to anyone of any age, race, or religious background, and they welcome all who desire to study the word of God. However, Pastor Moore emphasizes that it is not enough to learn about God’s word, but we must actively apply it to everyday life to fully experience God. While its primary ministry center is in West Birmingham, Faith Chapel also has a campus in Columbus, Georgia, and an outreach ministry located in downtown Birmingham known as The Care Center.
CSM has been a long-time partner of Faith Chapel, and we are grateful to work with them to further their outreach ministries. CSM helps to provide Faith Chapel with food for their various food distributions to Jefferson county residents in need. Every 4th Saturday of the month, Faith Chapel distributes dry and frozen goods to food-insecure households. Additionally, Faith Chapel has gone above and beyond to serve our healthcare workers during this taxing time, providing lunch weekly to frontline workers in our Birmingham hospitals. While forced to scale down due to Covid-19 restrictions, Faith Chapel also ministers to the homeless in Birmingham and regularly provides hot lunches to the city’s impoverished.
Aside from food distribution, CSM has been able to partner with Faith Chapel on several different fronts. Pastor Mike Moore is a member of the One New Birmingham pastoral team and a valued voice during One New Birmingham forums. This past Christmas, CSM was also able to assist Faith Chapel in a large Christmas giveaway. Their church building provided a perfect place to distribute goods in a socially-distanced and Covid-safe manner. Using items we received from corporate donors, we offered a plethora of goods for individuals and families from which to choose.
While Faith Chapel is currently not meeting in-person due to Covid-19 restrictions, there are still several ways to get plugged in! You can view their Sunday morning service online at faithchapel.net or through the Faith Chapel App. Pastor Mike Moore also hosts a weekly podcast titled “How to Win” which you can listen to on any podcast app. And, you can even tune in live on Facebook for the opportunity to ask Pastor Moore real-time questions. Additionally, Pastor Moore has recently released a book and corresponding small group study titled “Muted Voice: A Challenge to the Body of Christ to Speak Out Against Racism.” Released in the months after the murder of George Floyd, “Muted Voice” calls out the church’s lack of leadership regarding racism and provides the next steps on how the church can combat racism within our churches and broader culture. “Muted Voice” can be found on Amazon and wherever books are sold. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Faith Chapel in serving Birmingham with tangible and spiritual resources, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with them for years to come.
