Christian Service Mission mobilizes thousands of volunteers yearly to serve
alongside Birmingham communities in need, fostering unity and joining in God’s Kingdom work.
All community service hours must be pre-approved by CSM staff before serving.
Verification letters will only be issued for approved hours, so please contact our team before coming to volunteer.
Join a SWATT Team
SWATT stands for Serving With Available Time & Talent. This team is made up of regular volunteers who use their gifts—whether weekly or “as needed”—to support the mission in meaningful ways. Some serve every week, others stay in our “back pocket” until a need arises, but all play a vital role.
Our SWATT Teams include:

Ladies’ & Gentlemen’s Sorting Teams – weekly groups that sort and prepare donated items

Construction Team – serving 3–4 days a week on projects and repairs for underserved homeowners, or church partners

Photography & Videography – creatives ready to capture stories and events

Marketing & Communications – professionals who offer skills in design, writing, or strategy

Garden Volunteers – weekly hands-on work in our garden
- Administrative SWATT – This team supports behind the scenes, helping with organization, data entry, scheduling, and other office tasks that keep our mission running smoothly. Whether you can serve weekly or on an as-needed basis, your skills make a big difference.
