Ms. Williams has spent her life caring for others. After recently losing her husband, whom she had faithfully cared for during a long season of illness, she now continues in her role as the primary caregiver for their adult son with special needs. She works faithfully at her job but can only be away from home for limited hours each day because of the challenges with her son’s care.
We first met Ms. Williams years ago while replacing the roof on her home. Through that project, a meaningful relationship began. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of walking alongside her through various home repairs and ongoing needs.
During a recent bathroom repair, our volunteer construction team noticed she didn’t have any furniture in her living room. After her husband’s passing and the challenges that accompanied his illness, she had lost much of the furniture that once made her house feel like home. Letting those items go was not easy, especially because of the memories they held and the fact that the furniture had been a gift from her husband.
The same day that we became aware of this need, a donor called to offer a couch and chair. We were able to add rugs, lamps, and a few additional pieces from corporate donors to complete the space. When everything was delivered, Ms. Williams was overwhelmed with gratitude. What had felt sparse and heavy now felt warm and welcoming again.
Scripture reminds us that pure religion is to care for widows and orphans. Because of our volunteers, donors, and partners, we get to link arms and live out this call of the Gospel together. We are so grateful for each of you who help make moments like this possible.
