Christian Service Mission is a 501c3 non profit serving the greater Birmingham area for Christ since 1970. We exist to work alongside churches in order to build healthy communities that reflect Oneness with Christ in our city.

Our History
1970
Christian Service Mission was established by Johnny Lynch. Mr. Lynch opened a small benevolent mission on the Southside of Birmingham and was there until the mid-1980s.
Our History
1988
Under the direction of Ed Cutshall, Food Source of Alabama was established. This food co-op program served 60,000 families throughout the southeast for many years.

2000
Under the direction of Rhonda Marshall, CSM formed a partnership with over 110 organizations to provide food and resources in the greater Birmingham area.

2010
Under a new Board and a new Executive Director, Tracy Hipps, CSM has entered a new era with a new vision for the next season of ministry. CSM is here to help build healthier communities that reflect Oneness with Christ through community outreach.

Today
Today, Christian Service Mission continues to host thousands of volunteers a year while connecting resources to needs throughout Birmingham. We see the Lord’s favor every day as we work towards bringing about unity in our city.

Our Staff
With decades of industry specific experience and a heart for God and the community, our staff personally oversees all of our partnerships and volunteers.
Tracy Hipps
Tracy Hipps joined the Christian Service Mission as Executive Director in 2010. Tracy is a leader in community development and has spent more than 30 years “serving the least of these” in Chicago and Birmingham. Previously, Tracy was the Community Facilitator for Mission Birmingham and he has also served as a Youth Pastor for The Center for Urban Missions and The New City Church. Tracy is a graduate of Southeastern Bible College and holds a Master’s degree in Art in Ministry from Grace Seminary. Tracy is a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church.
