Just a couple of weeks ago, on April 27th, I was reminded of the tornadoes that hit Alabama in 2011. Looking back, it is clear how the Lord prepared CSM to be more deeply involved in our community through this tragic event. This event was a catalyst that allowed us to begin working in disaster relief within our community. From engaging people through this disaster, we began to see even more unmet needs. This led us down a path of Christian community development. Now, 13 years later, the Lord has paved the way for us to care for the Birmingham community through partnership with local churches.
Our vision is to see the church thrive in Birmingham. This vision has taken nearly ten years to mature and is still growing, but our Board of Directors has been very supportive throughout the process. The local church is our central focus, and when working with them, we feel like we’re in our sweet spot of ministry. CSM is a non-profit and a 501 C3, but I prefer to view us as a para-church organization.
Our mission is to connect resources with needs by building relational partnerships to see communities thrive. In whatever connections we make, our priority is communicating the Gospel in word and deed to those we are reaching. We desire all partnerships to grow into real relationships, and that desire determines how we take action as an organization.
The Christian Service Mission has been around for 54 years. In the last 14 years, we have developed relationships that have allowed us to work with hundreds of churches and organizations to serve millions of people in Birmingham and worldwide. We have rebuilt hundreds of homes for the vulnerable in our city. We have served thousands of families through authentic, meaningful connections through our church and organizational partnerships. We have helped to supply resources to local churches for their events and outreaches. We have mobilized thousands of volunteers and facilitated hundreds of mission trips at home and beyond. God is the One who has given us the resources to do what we have done. He is good, and we give Him all glory and honor for it all.
We are only here because God has used you to support this ministry through prayer. Your support of CSM’s vision of oneness and transformation in Birmingham has been critical to our ability to impact our city for the Kingdom. Your gifts of time, talent, and treasure have made a Kingdom impact. None of this work is our own doing; rather, we boast about Jesus. As Jesus intercedes for us, the Spirit guides us to follow the Father as we seek to make His Kingdom come here in Birmingham alongside and for you.
