Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. left a profound, lasting legacy in our city—one that continues to inspire us to live out his values of justice, service, and love for others. While many places are closed on MLK Day to honor Dr. King, we choose to serve as a way of remembering. Our work on this day is deeply rooted in supporting projects that align with Dr. King’s vision for a better, united community.

This year marked the third year we partnered with UAB’s football team to support Parker High School on MLK Day. We worked to sanitize the campus, including bathrooms, bleachers, and weight rooms, to create a clean and welcoming environment for students and staff.

What was truly remarkable about this year’s event was the overwhelming participation from the UAB football team. Despite it being a voluntary event, these young men came out in full force, giving their time and energy to serve. It was clear from the start that their hearts were set on blessing the school and its community.

We were proud to carry out this project in collaboration with Pastor Myles McKee, a pastor at Shades Mountain Baptist Church and assistant football coach at Parker High School. Pastor Myles is a faithful disciple-maker in the Parker community. As a former quarterback for UAB, his passion for football is undeniable—but it is his love for Jesus that truly defines him.

We are grateful to continue supporting such incredible leaders who are making a real impact in Birmingham. Pastor Myles and his team embody the spirit of Dr. King’s work, and we are honored to stand beside them, especially on such a significant day as MLK Day.

As we reflect on the impact of this day, we are reminded that the work of service is not limited to one day—it’s a lifelong commitment to love our neighbors and uplift our communities. We are excited to continue following Dr. King’s example and work alongside others who are passionate about making Birmingham a better place for all.
