In June, we hosted two week-long groups from out of state. They were both such a blessing to us, and even though their paths didn’t cross, they worked towards the same goal: a safe home for victims of domestic violence. We are working on this home with a local church and its pastor. Some genuinely incredible things are happening regarding the Lord’s provision for this church’s vision!
First Christian Church of Johnson City was our first summer group; they were so wonderful in every way. We host them annually and are always so blessed by their hard work and our staff’s conversations with the students. FCC truly brings a remarkable group of individuals out each year, and it has been so special to see the same faces year to year, feeling like we get to witness these students grow up before our eyes! Their focus was primarily on finishing the exterior and interior painting at the home we were working on. While some of their team members were on campus for projects, most worked on the house and made crucial headway with this project.
FCC laid the groundwork for Spirit of Joy to come in and nearly complete the safe home! Spirit of Joy brings many skilled laborers who know everything from laying flooring to rewiring electricity on a house! They spent particular time and effort installing floor joists for a dear homeowner we’ve been serving. We put a roof on for him and are working on a few more things for his home. This team worked on his electricity and got it to where we were nearly ready to turn his power back on! Another team from Spirit of Joy went onsite with a partner church where they cleaned out a basement, cleaned the whole church interior, and spruced up the exterior of the property. The skilled labor this team offered our homeowners was a generous gift, and we are so glad to host them annually!
