Helping improve the safety and health of homes has always been an integral part of what we do here at Christian Service Mission. Recently our housing team was working in the Collegeville neighborhood of Birmingham, near historic Bethel Baptist Church. On the first weekend of June, we had members and leaders from Bethel Baptist Church and Mountain Brook Community Church working together on three different ongoing projects at Mr. Gordon’s home.

Additionally, Pastor Thomas Wilder, Head Pastor of Bethel, led a group of people from both churches as they went around the neighborhood and cut down trees that posed a threat to nearby houses. This Saturday was just one example of the relationship growing between these two churches from different Birmingham areas. CSM is proud to be a part of this relationship that has formed, and we are so thankful for their continued service to our local communities. Since that Saturday, both churches have held summer youth camps and have had volunteers from each church serving alongside and fellowshipping with each other. We hope to see this unity grow between all of our church partners!

Another notable aspect of this day was that Mr. Gordon, the owner of the house, came out to work alongside everyone. Aaron, our Construction Director, noted how much Mr. Gordon enjoyed getting to talk with the volunteers, and Aaron especially enjoyed his conversation. Over the next few weeks, we will have several churches and youth groups such as Homewood Community Church, Spirit of Joy, and Eden Westside partnering with us to work on this home. We are excited and expectant to see what the Lord will do as He brings together many more people throughout this project. Please pray for us as we continue to work and bless the people of this neighborhood!
